These spiral cut wood dowels are perfect for inoculating wood logs with mushroom a culture. The spiral cut allows for maximum surface area for the culture to colonize, making for faster and more efficient growth. The dowels can be used to inoculate a variety of mushroom species like shiitake, oyster, lion's mane, and more.

Each 2-pound bag contains approximately 1000 wood dowels, making it perfect for the home cultivator or small farm operation. To prepare the dowels for inoculation, they must first be hydrated and sterilized. Soak the dowels in water for at least 24 hours, then sterilize them by pressure cooking at 15 psi for 2 hours.

When it comes to choosing logs for mushroom cultivation, hardwoods like oak, maple, and birch are the best. These logs should be at least 4 inches in diameter and 3-4 feet long. Once you've drilled holes in the logs, you can insert the dowels and seal the holes with wax to prevent contamination.
