 Maitake mushroom, also known as Grifola frondosa, is a type of edible mushroom that grows in North America and Asia. It is a polypore mushroom, meaning it has many small holes or pores on the underside of its cap. Maitake has a unique, fan- or feather-like shape, with large, overlapping caps that can grow up to several pounds in weight. Its cap is typically brown or gray and its stem is short or absent. Maitake mushrooms have a rich, earthy flavor and a meaty texture, making them a popular ingredient in many dishes.
