Grow your own edible northern black morel mushrooms with liquid culture
Morchella importuna, more commonly known as the northern black morel, is
native to North America, primarily the Pacific Northwest region. It is a prized
edible mushroom and can be found in gardens and wood chip beds. It should
absolutely be cooked before eating as it is poisonous when raw.
The fruiting bodies of Morchella importuna grow to be 6-20 cm high with a cap
that is 3-15cm high with a diameter of 2-9cm. The cap has an egg like shape with
a surface that has vertical pits and ridges. It is pale to dark grey when young with
smooth ridges and pits that deepen and darken as it matures. It can be grown
using sawdust and a temperature of 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit.
