The black poplar grows primarily on or around poplar trees, hence the name. It
tends to grow in dense clusters with a white stem and golden-brown cap. A
highly prized and versatile mushroom, it has a delicious sweet and nutty flavor. It
is best to consume when young. It can be used to help decompose stumps and
can be grown on supplemented hardwood (alder, oak, cottonwood, maple,
willow, poplar) wood chips mixed with sawdust. Fruiting temperature is between
50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
