Pasteurized Mushroom Casing
To compliment our other Sterilized Mushroom Growing products, we now offer mushroom substrate casing as well. OutGrow®'s mushroom casing is made up of many choice organic products. Pasteurized Mushroom Casing contains peat moss, vermiculite, pH buffer, pH stabilizer, gypsum, and a few other choice ingredients. As with all of our products we extensively tested and adjusted our recipe and preparation until we got it perfect.
Casing is a non-nutritious moisture retaining layer spread on top of your mushroom substrate. It covers the substrate, holding in precious water and creating a micro-climate to help encourage even pin sets.
Your casing needs to be pasteurized, pH balanced and adjusted for moisture content. If your mushroom casing is too wet, it can actually harm the pin set and if the mushroom casing is too dry, it can also have adverse effects on your substrate. We guarantee the perfect moisture content in our casing.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE CASING?
Your mushrooms are about 85% water. They use moisture from the air and from the substrate to satisfy their water needs. Casing provides protection for mycelium from fast water evaporation. As a general rule, the more mushrooms expected per square foot of surface area, the deeper the casing layer should be. If you are planning on fruiting your substrate in our grow bags, casing is not necessary. If you are fruiting your substrate in tray or tubs casing can certainly benefit your grow.
