Description

A colonized agar wedge of Gray Oyster mushroom is a small piece of agar medium, typically agar powder mixed with sterilized water, that has been inoculated with spores or mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus) of the Gray Oyster mushroom. The wedge has been allowed to grow and colonize, meaning the fungus has fully taken over the agar medium. The Gray Oyster mushroom is a edible mushroom that typically have a gray cap and are oyster-shaped, it have a delicate and mild flavor and are often used in various dishes and cuisines. Agar wedges are commonly used by mushroom cultivators and researchers as a way to easily propagate and study different strains of mushrooms.

Fully colonized MEA agar wedge. This is a small specimen taken from an agar plate. The agar wedge is fully colonized with your mushroom culture. A colonized agar wedge is used in expanding the mushroom culture it is colonized with. When you receive your colonized agar wedge you can inoculate a whole agar plate, liquid culture or sterilized mushroom substrate with it, or store it for future use.
