Ganoderma resinaceum, more commonly known as the red reishi, is native to Europe, although there are many similar species occurring throughout the world. Ganoderma species have shown to be a potent medicinal mushroom, being rich in polysaccharides and proteins. A big advantage of this mushroom is that it can be consumed daily without any side effects. It has also shown potential in bioremediation.

The red reishi is a polypore mushroom, growing on dead trees and stumps of hardwoods such as oak, elm, beech, maples etc. Growing in a fan like shape with a reddish color, it is a beautiful looking mushroom. It gets tougher as it ages and is typically consumed by making a tea or tincture. It can be grown on a mixture of supplemented hardwood sawdust or by using a stump plug if it is to be grown outdoors.
