Grow your own edible and medicinal tiger sawgill mushrooms with liquid culture
Lentinus tigrinus, more commonly known as the tiger sawgill mushroom is native
to North America as well as Europe and Australia, although their DNA is very
different. Studies have shown that it is very rich in proteins and minerals. It is
also being studied for its potential in mycoremediation.
Tiger sawgill is a polypore mushroom with a preference for elm trees. Unlike
most polypores however, it has gills. It will grow in clusters or scattered. It is fairly
small, with a cap measuring 1-3 cm, characterised by a navel like indentation in
the middle. It has small dark brown scales with white flesh. The caps are edible
but the stems are too tough to eat yet they can be dried and powdered. It can be
grown outdoors on hardwood logs or by using a supplemented hardwood
