Description
Black Morel Mushroom Culture
Black Morel (Morchella angusticeps) Mushroom Culture.
Each culture plate is a 100x15mm petri dish inoculated with fresh Black Morel (Morchella angusticeps) mycelium growing on malt extract agar (MEA), and will arrive actively colonizing.
Black Morel Mushroom Culture Lab Notes
At Out-Grow's mycology lab, we have observed the following traits of this mushroom culture:
Black Morel (Morchella angusticeps) mycelium appears light tan on culture media, with a tomentose to floccose texture — fine, upright hyphae giving the colony a distinctly fur-like appearance with individually visible hyphal strands. Growth is moderate, typically colonizing a 100mm plate notably slower than oyster mushrooms but capable of filling a plate edge to edge given time. As the culture matures, mycelium darkens from light tan toward deeper tan or brown, and older regions of the plate may develop small sclerotia on the agar surface. Incubate at an optimal temperature of 64–72°F.
Mushroom Culture Use
Mushroom cultures, typically on MEA culture plates, are used to grow and preserve mycelium. In most cases, sterile transfers of agar wedges from this plate are used to inoculate fresh culture media or sterilized grain spawn.
Mushroom Culture Storage
Wrap your mushroom culture plate in parafilm before storing. Store fully colonized plates at 35–43°F in darkness, sealed to prevent desiccation. Plan to transfer every 1-2 months to maintain culture vigor.
Store fully colonized plates at 35–41°F in darkness, sealed to prevent desiccation. Working plates should be refreshed every 3-4 months; slants can go 6-12 months between transfers at refrigeration temperatures.
Mushroom Cultures Are Made to Order
All mushroom culture plates are made to order. Once your order is received, Out-Grow will inoculate your plate within 1-3 days. Your mushroom culture will then be incubated in our mycology lab for approximately 7-14 days, or until clean healthy mycelium has been verified by our mycologist. Once verified, your order will be shipped promptly. Please allow an additional week for your mushroom culture to fully colonize upon arrival, as colonization time varies by species.
Also available as a Black Morel (Morchella angusticeps) Liquid Culture.
