Description
King Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) Grain Master
For sale is a 1-quart jar of King Oyster Mushroom Spawn. This is a generation 1 grain master mushroom spawn jar used for expansion of isolate mycelium, optimized for spawn run times and bio efficiency.
Out Grow has isolated this King Oyster culture for stem thickness and single fruit dominance. It is selected to put its energy into a few heavy stems rather than many thin ones, which is the whole point of growing this species.
What a G1 Grain Master Is
A grain master is a jar of fully colonized grain made to be transferred, not consumed. Generation 1 means the mycelium in this jar came directly from one of our agar plates rather than from another bag of grain, so it sits one step from the culture library instead of three or four. That matters because every transfer is another opportunity for contamination to ride along, and because a G1 jar still has the full expansion runway ahead of it. One quart can seed several more quarts of sterile grain, and those can seed your bulk substrate.
How to Use This Jar
Rest, break, recover, transfer. King is a strong expander and a clean coloniser. When you spawn it to bulk, use sterilized supplemented sawdust rather than pasteurized straw, because this species does not perform on a pasteurized substrate the way the other oysters do.
King Oyster Growing Conditions
King Oyster colonizes grain in 8 to 14 days at 70 to 80F and fruits at 55 to 60F. It is the one oyster here that genuinely prefers a sterilized supplemented sawdust substrate over pasteurized straw. Strong fresh air exchange during fruiting is what builds the thick white stems this species is grown for, so run your FAE high and keep humidity steady. Expect fewer fruits per block than a Pearl or Blue, each one substantially larger. This culture is selected to put its energy into a few heavy stems rather than many thin ones.
| Spawn run | 70 to 80F |
|---|---|
| Grain colonization | 8 to 14 days |
| Fruiting temperature | 55 to 60F |
| Substrates | Sterilized supplemented hardwood sawdust, Master's Mix |
| Difficulty | Intermediate |
| Season | Cool season |
| Note | Prefers sterilized over pasteurized substrate |
Storage and Shelf Life
Refrigerate at 35 to 40F. Warm to room temperature for a day before transferring. Do not freeze.
In the Kitchen
The stem is the product. Slice it into thick coins or scallop rounds and sear hard in a dry pan before adding fat. It holds structure like almost no other mushroom and takes a hard sear without releasing water.
Guarantee and Live Shipping
Every jar is inspected before it leaves our lab and guaranteed to arrive alive and contamination free. If it does not, photograph the jar sealed and unopened and contact us within 48 hours of delivery for a replacement or refund. Live spawn is temperature sensitive, so we hold shipments during extreme heat and cold rather than sending something that will not survive the trip.
