Rye Grass Seed Substrate for Mushroom Cultivation

Out-Grow's rye grass seed is a proven grain substrate widely used by mushroom cultivators for its reliable colonization characteristics and broad species compatibility. The small, elongated kernel structure of rye grass seed provides excellent surface area for mycelium attachment, promoting rapid and even colonization throughout the grain mass.

Rye grass seed performs consistently across a wide range of gourmet and specialty mushroom species including oyster, shiitake, lion's mane, and many others. Its natural starch and nutrient composition provides mycelium with a rich food source throughout colonization, producing vigorous grain spawn that transfers cleanly to bulk substrate.

At 8 quarts per bag, you have enough grain to run multiple jars or bags simultaneously, making it well suited for both home cultivators and those running larger production cycles.

Preparation: Rinse rye grass seed thoroughly until water runs clear. Soak for 12-24 hours then simmer for 15-20 minutes until hydrated but firm. Drain and surface dry until no moisture remains on the kernel exterior. Load into jars or grain bags, sterilize at 15 PSI for 90 minutes, cool completely, then inoculate with your chosen culture.
