Description
Tiger Milk Mushroom Plate Culture
Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) Mushroom Plate Culture.
Each culture plate is a 100x15mm petri dish inoculated with fresh Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) mycelium growing on malt extract agar (MEA), and will arrive actively colonizing.
Tiger Milk Mushroom Plate Culture Lab Notes
At Out-Grow's mycology lab, we have observed the following traits of this mushroom plate culture:
Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) mycelium grows at a moderate to rapid rate on glucose-based agar, with studies reporting approximately 6.9mm per day radial expansion at the optimal temperature of 86°F and pH 6-7. Colony density ranges from thin to moderately compact depending on medium composition. This species is highly responsive to carbon and nitrogen source — glucose, fructose, and mannose are preferred carbon sources, with potassium nitrate as a favorable nitrogen source; growth is suppressed when pH moves outside the 5-7 range. Glucose-peptone and YEPD are among the best performing media and work well for consistent lab work. Careful medium standardization is essential as small formulation changes significantly affect both radial growth and mycelial density.
Mushroom Plate Culture Use
Mushroom plate cultures, typically on MEA culture plates, are used to grow and preserve mycelium. In most cases, sterile transfers of agar wedges from this plate are used to inoculate fresh culture media or sterilized grain spawn.
Mushroom Plate Culture Storage
Your mushroom plate culture can be wrapped in parafilm and stored at normal room temps, in a sealed baggie, for up to 6 months. Out-Grow recommends you replate your mushroom plate culture every 6 months to ensure longevity of your purchase.
Transfer your Tiger Milk mycelium to fresh MEA every 3–6 months to keep your culture healthy and vigorous.
Mushroom Plate Cultures Are Made to Order
All mushroom culture plates are made to order. Once your order is received, Out-Grow will inoculate your plate within 1-3 days. Your mushroom plate culture will then be incubated in our mycology lab for approximately 7-14 days, or until clean healthy mycelium has been verified by our mycologist. Once verified, your order will be shipped promptly. Please allow an additional week for your mushroom plate culture to fully colonize upon arrival, as colonization time varies by species.
